The latest update by Cape Town Air Access shares that air traffic to the Cape Town International Airport is steadily improving. When comparing November 2022 data with the same period in 2019, the domestic terminal saw a 73% two-way passenger recovery, while the international terminal recorded an 83% two-way passenger recovery.
From January to October this year, the domestic terminal has seen a recovery of 71% when compared to this same period in 2019, while the International terminal has seen a recovery of 68%.
Recent flight updates
In addition to the existing flights that have already resumed flying to Cape Town International Airport, which are displayed in the image below, several new flights or increased flights have been announced. These are:
- RwandAir has increased the frequency of its Kigali-Harare-Cape Town route from 3 to 6 times per week, starting from 7 November.
- British Airways has increased the frequency of their London, Heathrow – Cape Town route from daily to double daily, since 14 November.
- Air Mauritius restarted its Mauritius to Cape Town flight on 16 November. It will operate 2 flights per week until January 2023.
- United Airlines celebrated its inaugural flight between Washington, Dulles (IAD) and Cape Town on 18 November. The carrier will operate year-round with 3 flights per week. Read more about this here.
- Lift has added the Durban – Cape Town service to their network, starting from 25 November. It will offer year-round, double-daily flights.
International carriers and schedules
With a bumper tourist season expected this summer, this trajectory of recovery is likely to continue.
