Premier Hotels Thohoyandou makes history

The opening of Premier Hotels & Resort’s property in Thohoyandou in August 2024 represents a significant step forward for the local community and economy of Limpopo. It also ushers in a new era for partnerships within the hospitality industry.

Premier Hotels Thohoyandou was built at a cost of R194 million by Tsakani Masia, a respected South African businesswoman and the owner of African Century Group. The Industrial Development Corporation also provided financial assistance.

As an owner of both the hotel and property group, Masia has been involved as a contractor from the moment the project broke ground, which is a first in South Africa’s construction industry.

“Partnering with remarkable entrepreneurs such as Masia is integral to our strategy of growth and empowerment across South Africa,” said Sigal Nassimov-Geva, COO of Premier Hotels & Resorts.

Nassimov-Geva emphasised that the group’s growth strategy seeks to create far-reaching benefits within the communities it operates, particularly in previously marginalised areas. It is for this reason that Thohoyandou was identified and selected as the next destination for the opening of Premier Hotels & Resorts’ newest property.

Local impact

According to Samuel Nassimov, MD of Premier Hotels & Resorts, the hotel currently employs 85 permanent workers and 30-40 contract and part-time staff, providing work that is “improving the livelihoods of local families”.

“A project of this magnitude is critical in creating job opportunities,” commented Nassimov.

He explained that during the construction phase, the project generated around 480 jobs, ranging from unskilled local construction labour to highly skilled artisans and project managers.

By creating jobs for residents and offering a venue for various local and regional events, the hotel isn’t just strengthening the local economy but also attracting more business activity to the area.

Limpopo as a destination

Situated near the University of Venda and local cultural attractions, the hotel is strategically positioned to appeal to a wide range of visitors who are keen to explore the region’s heritage, including business travellers and tourists.

Guests staying at Premier Hotels Thohoyandou can enjoy modern amenities, including 120 stylish rooms and conference facilities with a capacity for 450 attendees, making it ideal for conferences and events. In addition, the hotel provides access to a business suite, bar and restaurant with a wine bar, outdoor pool and gym facility.

Moreover, Premier Hotels Thohoyandou aligns with Limpopo’s development goals by promoting tourism that honours cultural and natural heritage while generating revenue streams for the community. The presence of a quality hospitality establishment in Thohoyandou is also set to elevate the town’s profile as a destination of choice, offering a blend of modern comfort and local charm.
