Organised by United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), Africities is a summit taking place every three years to evaluate the implementation of decentralisation policies in Africa. The 2015 edition was held in Johannesburg from 29 November – 3 December.

At the same time, ‘Africities 7 Exhibition hosted over 400 exhibitors and attracted more than 5 000 participants including ministers in charge of local governments; ministers in charge of housing and urban development and ministers of public service; local authorities and local elected officials; officials of local and central administrations; civil society organizations, associations and trade unions; economic operators of the public and private sectors as well as of the social/ solidarity economy, traditional rulers; researchers and academics; international cooperation agencies.

The 3D Group was responsible for designing, building and constructing the entire 5 000m2 exhibition, including exhibition stands, meeting rooms and break away venues. This included liaising with exhibitor governments, associations of local governments, international and cooperation institutions, public and private businesses, as well as banking institutions and financial establishments, research and training institutions that wish to work with the African local governments.

“This was a challenging job, not because we were asked to attempt new or difficult designs or builds, but because of the sheer volume of work that had to be planned for and then completed in a very short space of time. But, 3D’s teams thrive on challenging briefs. We were delighted to work with Africities to contribute to a successful summit and exhibition,” said 3D sales and marketing director, Conrad Kullmann.
