South African’s first to receive three different gradings in one building
With immediate effect, The Maslow Time Square has been officially renamed Time Square Hotel, in a strategic move to enhance brand identity, and manage guest perceptions.
“While our name is changing, guests can be assured our ownership, management, and commitment to delivering exceptional service remain the same,” says Ruben Gooranah, Time Square’s General Manager.
All existing contracts, reservations, and negotiated rates will remain valid and unaffected by this change. Only the hotel’s branding and communications will be updated to reflect the new name.
What also won’t be changing is the hotel’s unique multi-tier room grading, a first in South Africa. Time Square Hotel offers three-star, four-star and five-star graded rooms under one roof, providing guests with options to suit different budgets and preferences, as recognised by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).
The Sun International property is the group’s biggest gaming, entertainment and leisure destination in Gauteng boasting a casino, hotel, multi-purpose arena and top retail tenants. The exciting restaurants, lounges and bars all offer a diversity of cuisines and experiences. Located opposite Menlyn Maine Mall, it is ideal for those who love to shop ‘til they drop. For families, The Magic Company, features a large arcade with games like car racing and AR snipers, plus ten-pin bowling with UV lighting. The Tick Tocks Crèche offers supervised childcare.
The 8 500-seat SunBet Arena and Time Square hotel have hosted numerous international and local superstars, and continue to do so. Notable guests and performers include Bryan Adams (2026), UB40 (2026), Kenny G (2025), and Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance (2025).
“This is a hotel that truly deserves praise for the exceptional experience it offers. Nestled conveniently in the heart of the bustling Menlyn Maine, the hotel’s prime location places you right across from a selection of fantastic restaurants and directly attached to the lively casino, making it an ideal choice for both leisure and business travellers,” comments Roxy Janzen on Google Reviews.
“The rooms are not only spacious but also thoughtfully designed, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that present breathtaking views of Pretoria. We appreciated the well-appointed amenities such as comfortable bedding, a fridge, and a Nespresso machine, which contributed to a relaxing stay. Room service was another pleasant surprise; our order was delivered in an astonishingly quick seven minutes!”
Contemporary styling, comfort and a warm welcome come standard with all 238 rooms, including the 10 suites. The difference in the grading lies in each room’s size, design and decorative finishes.
“The innovative concept allows travellers to tailor their accommodation to suit their needs and budget,” says Time Square Rooms Division Manager Lesego Kitsa.
The three-star Foundation rooms are 24m² and furnished with either two singles or a queen-sized bed, work desk and bathroom with shower. The four-star 27m2 Median rooms offer either two single beds or a king-sized bed, work desk, coffee machine, and bathroom with shower. The luxurious five-star Zenith Level rooms are a spacious 36m², with two singles or king-sized beds, desk and coffee machine, and separate bath and shower.

“While our hotel caters to every accommodation need, guests who reside in the Zenith Level also get to enjoy a premium breakfast buffet in our 12th floor Luminary Lounge with its scenic views of the city. They can also witness breathtaking sunsets from the Solis bar, which also has its own splash pool,” says Kitsa.

The gym – available to residents – has breathtaking 360 degrees views of Menlyn and Pretoria while you get your sweat on.
“The hotel’s location is ideal — within walking distance to Central Square Shopping Centre and Menlyn Mall, with a wide variety of restaurants nearby. The gym is well equipped and accessible 24 hours, which is a great convenience,” says Patel.
The hotel operates on dynamic pricing starting with bed and breakfast for entry level three-star graded rooms. These rooms will suit someone making a quick trip, while four-star graded rooms offer a bit more comfort for guests and would suit families wanting to stay a bit longer so that they can tour the city.
“Despite the variable room rating, we are proud the service standard throughout the hotel and the experience in reception, restaurants and other facilities, is five-star,” says Kitsa.
The hotel goes beyond bed and breakfast bookings with value added packages to include Date Night, Stay for 3 nights and pay for 2, and Senior Citizen packages, with the best rates available via the Sun International website booking engine.
The Maslow Hotel in Sandton, also part of the Sun International stable, remains unchanged.
