Online hospitality training videos released to bolster industry standards | The Planner
Employees at graded establishments can now improve their knowledge and skills with free online training videos, courtesy of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), the International Hotel School (IHS) and Summit, a training institution.

 

Many graded establishments are small, family operated and lack formal hospitality qualifications or training.

The development of these training materials is a direct result of feedback TGCSA has received from the industry. Many graded establishments are small, family operated and lack formal hospitality qualifications or training.

Darryl Erasmus, Chief Quality Assurance Officer for TGCSA, says, “TGCSA has noticed that some of the smaller establishment lack basic training and in order for them to attain their grading they need to meet basic grading requirements. Once graded, it’s important to ensure that they maintain the quality standards, which is why continued training is important. This training intervention is a value add for graded establishment as well as to assist establishments to maintain their grading and achieve higher grading levels.”

Four programmes are currently available

Thus far, four training programmes have been identified as the most critical for these establishments, and have been made available on TGCSA’s YouTube channel. They are (click to access the videos):

A toolkit will also be made available to graded establishments once they have completed these four training videos.

All newly graded establishment will have access to these videos and the tool kits, as part of the Post Assessment Confirmation email sent to properties after grading approval.
