Premier Hotels & Resorts has invested R380 million in a new development on Umhlanga Ridge, Durban, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The property will feature a 4-Star Premier Hotel, which is set to open in February 2021, a 3-Star Premier Splendid Inn, which will open in time for the festive season, as well as a conference centre.
“Our decision to invest in Umhlanga, even during this difficult time due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, is testament to the confidence we have in South Africa’s ability to recover economically. The Umhlanga project will position the Premier Group as a firm favourite amongst holiday makers as well as corporate, government and international clientele – as we strive to secure a hotel presence in every major South African city,“ says Samuel Nassimov, the founder and Managing Director.
“Our decision to invest in Umhlanga, even during this difficult time due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, is testament to the confidence we have in South Africa’s ability to recover economically.”
He adds, “The unique configuration in offering two hotels and a complex conference centre in one spectacular location, combined with the very best modern, contemporary and in some cases classical design specifications, will provide Umhlanga with probably its finest hospitality experience!”
The Premier Hotel Umhlanga will offer 130 bedrooms (all sea-facing with gorgeous views), a 126-seater restaurant and bar (also with sea views), a third-floor rooftop swimming pool, and a gym. The conference centre is situated on the 10th floor of the hotel and boasts an open-air viewing deck with glass balustrade that delegates can step out onto to enjoy the scenery. The centre is fully sub-divisible into 3 noise-dampening rooms and can host up to 300 attendees.
The Premier Splendid Inn will have 64 bedrooms and its own 50-seater restaurant, as well as access to the rooftop pool and conference centre in the neighbouring Premier Hotel.
The new development is a 15-minute drive from King Shaka Airport, while also being conveniently located 5 minutes from Gateway Shopping Centre, close to swimming beaches, and in the heart of the local business district. It also offers six floors of safe and convenient undercover parking.
In addition, the Premier Resort Cutty Sark will also re-open in time for the holiday season. The famous landmark in Scottburgh on the KZN South Coast has undergone a R65 million revamp. This includes new facades, and upgrades to all furnishings and décor to evoke a nautical theme.
An additional 39 rooms have also been added to the property, bringing its total to 98 rooms. Its new conference centre will open in February 2021. The resort will now feature two swimming pools, including a new cocktail pool deck experience, with direct access to the swimming beach. It also offers a dive school that specializes in the Aliwal Shoal Diving Experience.
Nassimov adds that all Premier CleanCheck protocols are being put in place across their properties to promote the well-being and safety of their guests and staff. You can find out more about these here.
