FEDHASA Cape members lead the way in energy saving | The Planner

Tonight the City of Cape Town will be hosting the Responsible Tourism in Cities Conference, FEDHASA Cape, the official representative of the hospitality industry in South Africa commends its members that have made positive strides in this field. FEDHASA extends its congratulations to its Peninsula All Suite Hotel and Hotel Verde members for their recent achievements in the area of responsible tourism.

We look forward to having the opportunity to discuss the strides the industry has made in this area, the hurdles we face and potential solutions,” says Chris Godenir, FEDHASA Cape Hotel Segment representative and Peninsula All-Suite Hotels general manager.

The Peninsula All Suites Hotel, winner of the Cape Town Energy Efficiency Forum Award in the large building category has committed itself to responsible tourism practices, from beach-cleaning drives to planting trees. The hotel believes in applying good environmental and sustainable practices.

As a further example of the industry’s commitment to responsible and sustainable business practice, Hotel Verde received the International World Responsible Tourism Award for Best City Hotel at World Travel Market UK. Hotel Verde was also  nominated by Cape Town Tourism in recognition for the preservation of, respect for and benefit to the City of Cape Town and its local community.

These recent awards assure us that we are on the right track, that our efforts – big and small – are being recognised and that as a 2010 signatory of the Cape Town Responsible Tourism Charter, FEDHASA Cape members remain committed to responsible tourism practices,” concludes Godenir.
