‘It may be a serious rocky ride for business gatherings with e-tolls on the near horizon’ We know the e-tolls may be here sooner than later. The repercussions on the MICE industry have yet to be felt. For example – many a top class venue with best accessibility via an e-toll route has a fully booked schedule for the second half of 2013 with prices and deposits in place.
Venue clients that have not taken account of reduced delegate numbers due to the additional cost of e-tolls could be in for a nasty shock of profit margins being systematically ‘shaved’. With additional margins being squeezed on the food and beverage transportation of supplies, a further concern could be smaller portions due to higher supplier costs due to a sudden e-toll charge coming about.
For the MICE industry it means we need to be constantly updated in the process and proceedings of OUTA who are opposing the e-toll system in its current implementation roll-out.
Wayne Duvenhage has agreed to spend 15 minutes explaining to the MICE Focus Group delegation on Friday 21st June at the 5 star Gallagher Convention Centre where we are at with the legal SANRAL process, the timelines and perhaps any prediction going forward.
The 3 hour programme promises to be of high value with Advocate Nel cutting through the legalese with the Protection of Personal Information being promulgated this year and how it will impact on those registration and exhibition visitor forms. Wayne will follow with a most enlightening Service Excellence presentation.
As with all MICE Focus Groups – the creme-de-la-crème of certifications for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) that is compliance certificates will be the confidential test questions in which 4 credits can be gained for all attending candidates.
