Sandtonโs Protea Hotel Balalaika has spent more than R12 million upgrading the hotel. The revamp is the first phase of a two part refurbishment to modernise the hotel and enhance the guest experience.
The foyer and reception areas have been given a contemporary, clean and fresh look while still maintaining their authentic English country charm encompassing โa little bit of country in the heart of Sandtonโ. Lordโs has been revamped with quirky alcohol decanter light fittings and old English animal orientated drapery adding to the joie de vivre.
The conferencing venue has also received a facelift, with new carpets, wallpaper, wall lights and 12 crystal chandeliers in the main venue. The bedrooms were fitted with new 32 inch televisions, new air conditioners, safes and electronic door locks.
The public bathrooms have been completely refurbished in lighter tones providing a complete new look. The Crown Court swimming pool has been renewed with a new water feature and safety railing.
Steeped in history, the hotel was originally built 64 years ago and is one of the only original hotels in South Africa. The hotelโs charm lies in the beauty and tranquillity of its two magnificent gardens, each with its own pool, bird life and a large variety of flowers, roses, paved walkways and trees.
โWe have modernised the look and feel without losing the timeless elegance of Balalaika which continues to live up to its reputation of providing guests with some country hospitality in the heart of Africaโs financial capital, Sandton city,โย says general manager Jรถrg Zwinscher.
