Andrew Conn, new gm for Mount Grace Country House & Spa | The Planner

Andrew Conn has been appointed General Manager of African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa in the Magaliesberg, succeeding Nelson Rodrigues. Andrew has a wealth of experience, having run many 5-star operations during his 30 years as an hotelier, and is a welcome addition to the African Pride Hotels team.

“An all-rounder in his interests and abilities, Andy is the kind of manager who balances business-oriented responsibilities with time on the floor with guests and staff,” says Danny Bryer, Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue for the Protea Hospitality Group.

Born in Durban, Conn was raised in Zimbabwe and trained at the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg, back in its halcyon days when it was an industry icon and spawning-ground for top hoteliers.

Since then he has worked for an exciting range of hotels, lodges and resorts across southern Africa, always injecting his work with his formidable energy and sense of humour. Before he accepted his position with African Pride Hotels, Conn managed Indigo Bay Island Resort & Spa, a 5-star luxury beach resort on Bazaruto Island in Mozambique, and prior to that was General Manager of the world renowned 5-star resort Fancourt on the Garden Route, home of the President’s Cup golf championship in 2003.

“Successfully running a 5-star hotel in today’s competitive and ever-changing hospitality industry is no mean feat,” says Bryer. “Today’s clientele are discerning and expect consistent standards of excellence.

“We believe Andy is just the right sort of person to take the hotel to greater heights.”
