Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa fill key positions | The Planner

Red Carnation Hotels South Africa is delighted to announce that Horst Frehse, currently general manager of The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, is to become executive director for the hotel, while deputy manager Michael Nel is being promoted to take over the general manager position at this Leading Hotels of the World member.

In his new role, Frehse will further promote and develop the business side for The Twelve Apostles, and provide some support and assistance with sales efforts for sister properties The Oyster Box in Umhlanga, and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg. As part of his new responsibilities, the respected hotelier will undertake sales promotions within South Africa, as well as to other parts of Africa, Europe and the US.

Frehse has more than 40 years’ experience in the industry and has led many of the country’s most successful hospitality establishments. Frehse’s career has seen him working in leading hotels in Hamburg, Munich, Geneva, Namibia, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Paarl. He held managerial positions at the five-star Grande Roche Hotel, Singita in the Kruger National Park and Singita Grumeti Reserves in the Serengeti (Tanzania), and Asara Wine Estate & Hotel in Stellenbosch before joining the family-owned Red Carnation Hotel Collection in December 2010 as general manager of the award-winning Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.

Frehse has achieved great success in his career in hospitality, thanks to his vivacious nature, his passion for the hotel industry, and the compassionate heart that he generously shares with his employees, clients and guests from around the world. In his new role he will maintain his excellent relationships with the media, tour operators, travel agents and regular guests for The Twelve Apostles Hotel.

In his new position as general manager at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, Nel looks forward to taking on the day-to-day running of The Twelve Apostles Hotel, ensuring that guests’ needs are not only met, but exceeded, and to make every single guest an RCH Ambassador through service excellence.

His journey with Red Carnation Hotels began more than 10 years ago. He started as a reservations agent at the Rubens Hotel in London and worked his way up the ladder in various hotels and positions within the Red Carnation family in the UK before joining The Twelve Apostles as duty manager in October 2006. He was promoted to reservations and revenue manager in February 2008 and revenue manager in March 2010, before his appointment as deputy general manager in July 2012.
