MICE industry braces for Sandton Precinct closure | The Planner

It is bold, bordering on dangerous, to mess with a daily routine. Our lives are dictated by set robotic-type patterns in order to survive and hopefully succeed in the crazy hectic world we live in.

During the SATSA Gauteng get together at The Marion on Nicol – there was a brief sneak preview of the intended closure of a specific area within Sandton during October to coincide with an eco-mobility festival co-hosted by Joburg Tourism taking place during the same period within the Sandton area.

It is early days and limited set plans have been formulated. The sneak preview was merely the commencement of ongoing advisories bringing into focus the benefits of other forms of transport to access the area.

The closure of part of a precinct within such a busy area is going to take some convincing in order to avoid MICE gatherings, office workers and their visitors, shoppers to name but a few key stakeholders to be either disrupted or – worse still – not traversing the area at all.

This space will certainly be watched with diligence.
