Greyville attempts to break Guinness World Record | The Planner

On 27 April 2015 the Greyville Exhibition and Events Company based at Greyville Race Course in Durban will attempt to beat the existing world record for the longest dining table in the world and it has been accepted by the Guinness Book of World records.

The attempt will include serving 2000 diners on the table and it will include the participation of Durban restaurants, hotels, corporate companies, tourism bodies, clubs and charitable organisations as well as private individuals and families wanting to be part of the ground breaking attempt.

The event will include a full day of local and international entertainment, bands and musicians as well as cuisine of the highest standards the Durban public can savour.

The 2100 meter dining table with 2000 diners will be set out within the vast Greyville complex alongside the famous racetrack and companies and individuals will be able to reserve as many spaces as they wish to fill the dining space created.

Independent restaurants, hotels, corporate companies and caterers will be able to reserve dining spaces for their customers and serve their own picnic style of cuisine on the day. A portion of the proceeds of the event will be distributed to various charities in and around Greyville.

Individuals will be able to participate by reserving a space and have the opportunity of selecting from a menu of picnic hampers on the day. Every person participating in the event will be personally listed as being part of the world record.

All food and beverages will be supplied on site and guests can select from the packaged picnic baskets or from the food stalls on the day as no food or beverage items will be allowed on to the Greyville premises.
