If you are looking for new ways to innovate your cooking while learning new skills as well as how to improve your health in a fun setting, the Koa Culinary Studio provides you with the ideal opportunity.
What is the Koa Culinary Studio?
Koa is a culinary studio that strives to improve the well-being of the community. We offer health-supportive culinary education by means of hands-on recreational cooking workshops. We believe that food can be a powerful tool in healing the body, and embrace the fact that what we eat significantly affects our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Who teaches the cooking classes?
We have a multi-disciplinary team involved in the teaching: Melissa Kelly (dietician), panel of chefs, Althea Nel (food scientist) as well as other experts from time to time.
What are the most popular classes?
Kiddies and teen classes as well as Mediterranean and low carbohydrate workshops.
Who can attend these classes?
These workshops are aimed at everybody who has a desire to learn culinary basics in order to create thoughtful, responsible and delicious food. The youngest group start at three years.
What are the benefits of doing a cooking class as a teambuilding exercise?
We believe that actions is the physical expression of one’s natural preferences to do things in certain ways – deep motivations drive our behaviour and therefore you can tell someone’s personality from the way they cook.
Different communication styles, levels of trust, how people give each other feedback, etc will surface during a cooking session. The Koa team knows that cooking in a professional kitchen puts people in a situation they may have seen but never experienced. Everyone plays a vital role in the kitchen and there is nowhere to hide. It can also be the place where you can discover your true performance potential. We also believe that the heat of the kitchen forges better relationships – it is all in the science and art of cooking!
It is our aim to build camaraderie with co-workers and/or clients and that team members will interact in new ways, building and renewing relationships with every chop, dice and whip.
How can KOA cooking classes be turned into a corporate activity?
Companies can join us for an informal cooking workshop with the aim to cook together, learning new skills and having fun. The alternative option is to add a little more zest by turning the whole cooking experience into a competition which will produce long lasting results since the team will discover how to achieve their objectives by working in a cohesive team through effective communication, planning and leadership.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Our ultimate goal is to motivate and empower our clients to change old unhealthy eating habits into a healthy way of life. No matter which workshop the clients attend, the main focus will still remain healthy eating principles.
