Gabriëlskloof, a wine and olive jewel of the Overberg, gives ‘thinking outside the box’ a delicious new meaning with its new Lunch Box experience, which entices visitors to soak up the farm’s idyllic hillside setting outside Bot River, al fresco style.
On offer from 1 September until the end of summer, this happy box of seasonal delights lures families and friends to venture outside and engage with the estate’s beauty and bounty in its tranquil courtyard, whilst snacking on sumptuous, freshly prepared taste sensations.
“Our restaurant and tasting room is framed by a lush green lawn and glistening reflective ponds, the serene heart of our estate. It offers the perfect setting for you to spread your blanket and kick off those shoes for a laid-back afternoon, away from the maddening crowds. Gabriëlskloof is not your typical picnic venue crowded with brollies and prams and with our new ‘picnic-style lunch in a box’ we cater for the more intimate lunchtime gatherings in our quad,” shares Nicolene Finlayson, Tasting Room Manager.
At R300, the generous Gabriëlskloof Lunch Box is perfect for two adults and features meaty marvels such as biltong spiced roast beef, parma ham, free range chicken liver parfait, pork and duck rillettes, mini Overberg lamb pies and smoked West Coast snoek quiche. Roosterkoeke with artisan cheese from neighbouring farms and homemade watermelon, green fig and koeksister preserve add a ‘local is lekker’ taste to the box, whilst a salad duo celebrates the sunny season. The Gabriëlskloof estate with its postcard pretty views is a royal treat, as are the Chocolate marquise pots that come with each lunch box. Yum!
The little ones can opt for an Under 10 VIP taste bud treatment at R75 per child, which includes a ham and cheese roll, yoghurt, mini cheese wedges, juice, crisps, fruit and a selection of old fashioned sweeties.
The al fresco setting beckons to be enjoyed with award-winning estate wines from the tasting lounge, where relaxed wine tastings, temping Food & Wine Pairing Pleasures and friendly staff come standard. Or guests can swing by the resident deli for some craft beers and additional refreshments, not forgetting that jar of farm honey to take home. A postprandial stroll around the farm or perhaps a more energetic game of boules or croquet on the lawn makes for a great way to round off your perfect day in the countryside.
Gabriëlskloof Restaurant, famous for its hearty fare that embraces the true essence of the region, will also launch its new Spring/Summer Menu on 1 September. Those not wanting to drape themselves on the estate’s greenery can find solace at the tables inside the popular restaurant or outside on the inviting stoep.
The Gabriëlskloof Lunch Box and the restaurant’s A la Carte and Deli menus change on a regular basis depending on Chef Frans Groenewald’s seasonal inspiration, the weather and his homemade pantry supplies.
Gabriëlskloof is open daily for lunch and wine tastings – except on Tuesdays – and pre-bookings for the Lunch Box experience are essential. For bookings and more information contact
