Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, transports visitors right back to April 1912. As visitors enter the exhibition, they are each given a boarding pass which allows them to experience, in chronological order, the ship’s construction, life on board, the famous sinking, and the modern day efforts to recover and conserve the wreckage for future generations.
The ship’s rooms have been replicated right down to the finest detail. Delicate perfume vials, porcelain dinnerware with the White Star Line logo, personal belongings and numerous items including a replica of the iceberg and actual recovered memorabilia such as pieces of the ship, personal china and postcards are on display.
This walk back in time is a haunting journey in the footsteps of those who are gone but not forgotten. Having been exhibited in Slovakia and the United States, it is now making its way to South African shores and will be exhibited in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The exhibition is suitable for all ages and is an emotional, fascinating and educational experience. The exhibition takes place in Johannesburg from 18 September 2015 to 8 November 2015 at The Zone @ Rosebank. It will then move to Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront from 27 November 2015 to March 2016. Prices range from R80 to R135 per person and can be bought online or in Pick ‘n Pay stores.
