Each year five of the country’s finest chefs hailing from Stellenbosch make a sumptuous pilgrimage to Gauteng to cook up exquisite culinary artistry at one of Jozi’s most sought after social events. Stellenbosch at Summer Place, which is annually tastefully presented by Sanlam Private Wealth and the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, offers an engaging Winelands experience that the most discerning palate would appreciate.
“Stellenbosch has a recipe for living that is hard to resist and it is this enviable lifestyle that we bring to Johannesburg through fine food, wine, art and music talent. Our chefs and winemakers work the floor for guests to hobnob with them, whilst enjoying their tantalising fare and acquainting themselves with the latest vintages,” shares Annareth Bolton, CEO of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes and organiser of the event.
“This year our chefs, of which four are amongst the Top 20 nominees for the 2015 Eat Out Top Ten Restaurant Awards*, will team up with prominent winemakers to create unique gourmet sensations paired to perfection with a curated selection of more than 80 top flight Stellenbosch wines,” she adds.
This year’s chef line-up includes Michael Deg, head chef of the world-class Delaire Graff Restaurant on the Helshoogte Pass, who will make his debut at the event with his locally inspired, bistro chic style featuring fresh and vibrant flavours. His Karoo lamb enriched with date and almond terrine and a spiced red onion gel will share the spotlight with elegant Shiraz and Pinotage renditions in the red wine corner.
Also joining culinary forces in the red wine section will be the multi-crowned Michael Broughton, who heads up Terroir Restaurant at Kleine Zalze Wine Estate. This master saucier is celebrated for his classic French cooking presented in contemporary, seasonal fare and his confit shoulder of lamb with peas, tomato and basil will stand its gastronomic ground against serious Cabs and red blends.
