The Sandton Convention Centre hosted the Event Greening Forum’ training session during November and a jam-packed programme it certainly proved to be.
The sessions following the mid-morning refreshment break had content for all attendees from one perspective or another. From the Academy’s viewpoint – the total programme content was outstanding however the highlights were:
*Impact of Food Waste & Chemicals at Events
Rebecca Henderson showed graphic examples of food waste destruction on the environment including the use of chemicals which can have a devastating and lasting effect long after the conference is concluded. Rebecca also gave excellent points of the Bokashi methods of ensuring ‘healthy’ nutrients are returned to the soil. Rebecca Henderson works for Earth Probiotic Recycling Solutions, a food waste recycling company.
Linda Galvad was yet another interesting presenter with her subject: ‘How to create a rooftop garden for your venue’
Simple, easy ways of starting one’s own rooftop garden was provided with a larger than life example of what has been undertaken at The Saxon above their car-park.The morning ended with a World Café round-robin with attendees providing their specific highlights which Grace Stead of Steadfast Greening and an EGF Committee Member will doubtless use for the benefit of a wider Event Greening Forum undertaking in the future.
