The Live Events Conference which took place over three days earlier this month consisted of a bevy of international presenters who shared their particular nation’s experiences in the technical production arena of the events industry.
The MICE Academy captured these ten golden nuggets of the essential attributes for those either venturing into or are in the event management arena which require absolutely no talent, and are valued characteristics by those looking to employ in this industry:
.Being on Time – show up on time, every time, and you are already streaks ahead of the rest.
.Work Ethic – getting your tasks completed, and managing your roles and responsibilities to ensure smooth flow and running of events.
.Effort – try. Everyone makes mistakes, but if you don’t try and give it your best shot you will never know how to get it done.
.Body Language – slouching and looking sulky or angry can be a big turn off. Make sure you stand up straight, and look interested and keen.
.Energy – events is a tiring game no doubt, but putting in the energy, even when you may not feel that you have it, can be a big game changer.
.Attitude – have a can do attitude. Nothing to big or to small for your client – this scores you major points.
.Passion – loving what you do is half the battle done, and events managers do need to be passionate about what they do, given the pressures of the industry.
.Being Coachable – take advice and information from those you work with/for. Others that have been in the industry much longer than you will likely have some great ideas that you can incorporate in to your own style of running things.
.Doing Extra – above and beyond. Help to carry those last boxes, stay until the very end, these characteristics are applauded and valued in this industry.
.Being Prepared – know your client, know what you will be doing on the day, and come prepared with everything and anything you can think of that may “possibly” wind up being needed on that event, in case of a crises. The event manager that thought to bring along the extra extension cords when someone realises that they actually need them – is worth gold!
