Planner Standards Conference draws top presenters | The Planner

Combining knowledge plus experience coupled with passion and excellent presentation skills and the promise of a formidable conference platform for a participative delegation is assured.

Guiding the entire proceedings – as Master of Ceremonies – will be the erudite, internationally renowned Michael Jackson (MJ).  A veteran of over 2500 events world-wide, who better to add his voice and share experiences and observations of good and questionable event planning.

From his perspective as a presenter, speaker, chairman and master-of-ceremonies, MJ has witnessed it all.  His knowledge base is so extensive – whether pre-conference conceptualisation, during show-time logistics and indeed post-conference follow-up that Michael’s book entitled ‘Build a Better Conference’ due for release in 2017 is likely to be a ‘must-read’.  Early-ordering opportunities with a special rate at the event planning conference will be available.

The keynote address will be undertaken by the SABPP (South African Board of People Practices)’ Head of Standards – Dr Shamila Singh.  SABPP has a large occupational member base of human resource practitioners and is a SAQA-recognised professional body.

The SABPP HR standards were designed by the HR industry, for the HR industry over a protracted period of time in 13 HR disciplines.   There can be no better successful Standards roll-out than one developed and managed by the industry such as HR.  Indeed it is the HR Directors who have called for an event planning standard to be investigated.  In this manner – an event planning bench-mark can be used for both independent and salaried planners.

Mike Lord  heads SA’s Event Safety Alliance as well as his own organisation for large concerts of many thousands plus various diverse and complex events requiring exact security arrangements to be firmly in place.  Mike is a presenter who needs limited notes and talks clearly and precisely on issues which are second-nature to this outstanding event safety expert.

Most event planners – especially within the corporate market – have a separate department or contracted consulting arm to handle event safety issues generally after the fact.   It remains essential for event planners during site inspections to undertake a simple, no-to-low-risk exercise at each event irrespective of capacity or type. This swift and easy-to-use table is part of the minimum Event Planning Standards.

‘Setting Standards in Event Planning’ is the outcome of the Event Industry Summit 2015 findings which set a strong foundation on which event planning standards can grow.

The morning sessions will paint the picture while the afternoon sessions of high-powered panel discussions will progress the planning standards into the future.
