New appointments at City Lodge Hotel Group | The Planner

A number of new appointments, effective from 01 February 2021, have been announced by City Lodge Hotel Group (CLHG). These include:


Shelley Steel has been appointed general manager of Courtyard Hotel Sandton.

Steel joined the hospitality industry as a receptionist at City Lodge Hotel Sandton. She has steadily worked her way up the ranks to general manager, a position that she has occupied at Road Lodge Randburg, Road Lodge Airport and, since 2010, Town Lodge Midrand.

Liz Clarke has been appointed general manager of City Lodge Hotel Sandton.

Clarke joined the CLHG in 2019 as general manager of City Lodge Hotel Durban. Prior to that she worked at the Southern Sun as a guest services attendant, guest service supervisor, deputy general manager, food and beverage manager, and Garden Court Morningside as general manager.

Brenda Botha will take over Clarke’s position as general manager of City Lodge Hotel Durban.

Botha was previously general manager of City Lodge Hotel Bryanston, and has also held positions at the President Hotel, City Lodge Hotel Bloemfontein, Road Lodge Bloemfontein (which she helped open in 2010 as general manager) and Road Lodge Cape Town International Airport.


Francois van Heerden has been appointed as general manager of City Lodge Hotel Bryanston.

In 1995, van Heerden joined the CLHG as assistant general manager at City Lodge Hotel Bloemfontein. After pursuing various opportunities in property management, food and beverage training, hospitality business and restaurant ownership and management, he returned to CLHG in 2012 as general manager of Road Lodge East London followed by general manager of City Lodge Hotel Sandton.

Keegan Maistry has been appointed executive chef at the CLHG’s new flagship Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City in Midrand where he will oversee two restaurants; catering for the meetings, conferencing and banqueting facilities; and room service.

Maistry graduated from the ICESA Hotel School in 2006 and started out as a trainee chef at The Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga, completing his practical training at Razzmatazz Umhlanga. His resume includes stints at the Southern Sun Elangeni, The Oyster Box Hotel, Hunters Run Golf Estate in Florida (USA), Fishers Island Private Club and the Glen Oaks Club in New York (USA), Singita Sabi Sands and two five-star hotels in Sandton.
