A sneak-peek of what Africa Travel Week is all about

Africa Travel Week aims to unlock Africa’s tourism source markets – here is what you can expect from this exciting forthcoming show!

During the much-anticipated WTM Africa and ILTM Africa, running from 11-13 April 2022 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Africa Travel Week (ATW) will be a showcase of the latest trends, updates and investment opportunities within the continent’s travel and tourism industry.

The International Tourism Investment Conference (ITIC), has partnered with WTM Africa to host what RX Africa, organisers and producers of the show, say is a cutting-edge summit on investing in Africa’s future tourism growth and prosperity.

The event will be run as a hybrid experience and offer delegates the option of experiencing this both in-person as well as virtually. This will see attendance from both global and regional investors and spotlight the key opportunities within Africa’s recovering tourism industry.

“During the pandemic, intra-African travel has been key for its survival. Investing in Travel and Tourism goes beyond its significant economic contribution. Investing in tourism, to me, is not just an extremely wise and correct business proposition; it is investing in the future of the planet, in the future of mankind, and after all, we all come out of Africa. Tourism is a force for good as well as peace,” commented Dr Taleb Rifai, Chairman of the ITIC and former Secretary-General of UNWTO.

Unlock Africa

Through its Unlock Africa podcast series, ATW is providing the latest updates from the continent’s source markets.

“As an industry connector for the travel and tourism community, we’ve made it our mission to ensure Africa Travel Week remains a valuable source of information. In our efforts to drive tourism recovery in Africa, it’s important for us to be at the forefront of our community, putting our global network to good use and providing data-driven updates from the continent’s most valuable inbound markets,” comments Martin Hiller, Creative + Content Director: Travel, Tourism and Creative Industries at RX Africa.

The podcasts include a collection of interviews conducted by the team over the past six months across a range of inbound tourism experts. Additionally, organisers have published detailed playbooks on ATW Connect, an online platform with a variety of handy travel-related content and resources.

“Be it booking trends, traveller preferences or concerns, we’ve left no stone unturned gathering critical information inbound trade partners and marketers need to know but can’t find elsewhere. There’s a lot of online noise to sift through, which is why we’ve taken the time and utmost care to present information that is not only constructive but easy to digest. With the back-to-travel boom in full swing, we have all the information you could ever need right at your fingertips, with plenty more surprises on the way,” Martin concludes.
