Skål International lauds Cape Town Premier with prestigious award

Skål International, a global body dedicated to building global tourism networks, recently awarded Cape Town Premier, Alan Winde, the 2022 Skål International Karl Twiggs Award.

During Skål International Cape Town’s networking event held on 12 April 2022 at the Cullinan Hotel, the professional body dedicated to growing friendly tourism networks, awarded Alan Winde, Cape Town’s Premier, the prestigious 2022 Skål International Karl Twiggs Award.

Premier Winde was awarded for his efforts in spearheading the recovery of the Western Cape’s tourism programme over the last 24 months and strengthening the sector’s value chain during this time. The award was presented to Alan by Dawn Smith, President of Skål International Cape Town, together with Lavonne Wittmann, Skål International World President 2019, and was announced in an official release.

“It was a team effort to coordinate all Provincial resources to fight for every job and every possible recovery opportunity. We value the importance of this sector, not just in the Western Cape, but globally, and while we fully understand the impact of the virus on the health of our people, it is equally important to push for economic stability. This award comes at a key milestone just as South Africa announced the end of the two-year State of Disaster. A special thanks also goes to our Minister Nomafrench Mbombo,” commented Premier Winde on his award.

What does the Karl Twiggs Award represent?

According to Skål International, “the Karl Twiggs Award is named after the 2004 President of Skål International who introduced the accolade to be bestowed on an individual and / or group that has made an invaluable contribution to the sector.

“Founded in 1934, Skål International is the only professional organisation promoting global tourism and friendship, uniting all sectors of the tourism industry.

“Its more than 12294 members comprised of industry managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to do business among friends throughout more than 317 Skål Clubs in 102 countries.”
