Blue Marlin revamp emphasises local community engagement | The Planner

The renowned Blue Marlin Hotel on KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast is set to welcome guests once more as the Blue Marlin All-Inclusive Seascape, reopening this spring. Starting 1 September, this historic hotel, owned by Dream Hotels & Resorts, will debut a fully renovated and reimagined all-inclusive experience.

Travellers, both local and international, can anticipate a complete transformation, featuring updated spa, pool, dining, and entertainment facilities. The revamped property now offers enhanced family-friendly activities, a new kids’ programme, and an upgraded children’s entertainment area.

Strengthening community ties

Beyond guest experience, the Blue Marlin team has focused on strengthening their relationship with the Scottburgh community. The hotel, a fixture in Scottburgh’s tourism scene for over 70 years, continues to play a crucial role in the area. By partnering with a wider range of organisations, the hotel aims to extend its community development efforts beyond its premises.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with several key organisations that support Scottburgh’s residents and natural surroundings,” says Blue Marlin Custodian Goodman Ncobeni. Notable partnerships include Keep Scottburgh Beautiful, a non-profit focused on environmental conservation through beach clean-ups, tree planting, and educational campaigns. The hotel also supports the maintenance of the TC Robertson Nature Reserve and has contributed to the Jabulani Creche in Kelso by donating supplies and installing a jungle gym.

Highlighting its community development initiatives, Blue Marlin mirrors the ethos of other properties in the Dream Hotels portfolio. “Embedding ourselves sustainably and meaningfully in our communities is core to our operations,” says Chris Snyman, Chief Development Officer at Dream Hotels. “We acknowledge our responsibility to contribute positively to the communities and environments where we operate.”

Ncobeni adds, “A successful business within a community must consider the well-being of everyone, not just its guests. Scottburgh’s residents and environment directly impact the Blue Marlin’s future, and our success influences our employees, local NPOs, and the guests we serve. Building strong community relationships fosters a sustainable tourism industry full of opportunities.”

Exciting new amenities

The upgraded Blue Marlin will feature two expansive swimming pools, a poolside bar and firepit, an Adventure Golf course, a dive centre, a kids’ club for all ages, and an adults-only spa and gym. The restaurant and terrace will offer themed dining experiences and regular entertainment. As an all-inclusive resort, packages will include accommodation, meals, drinks, and various activities, ideal for families, conferences, or those wanting a budget-friendly stay.

“Our renovations are aimed at providing guests with everything they need, from on-site activities to off-site adventures,” Snyman notes. “We’ve also invested in training our staff to ensure they deliver exceptional service.”

With its enhanced facilities and deeper community involvement, the Blue Marlin All-Inclusive Seascape is poised to remain a key player in Scottburgh’s tourism and community development sectors.
