Kill yourself laughing | The Planner

These days it can be hard to find entertainment that is truly unique and memorable. Since 1999, South African Murder Mysteries has been providing unforgettable entertainment for events, which has left guests wanting more.

SA Murder Mysteries“I was looking for a fun theme for our sector’s Imbizo, with a small budget and a group of 72; I contacted South African Murder Mysteries,” says Margie Klugkist, conference organiser at Royal HaskoningDHV, who was not quite sure how this form of entertainment would go down with engineers. “To my surprise, everyone, including the very conservative, took to this game like professionals. Acting and dressing up was their forte. Believe me, I was amazed; I did not even recognise our CEO who was dressed up as a tarty lady with a serious hormone problem, sporting a full moustache.”

The crime scene
For one night, your guests will be the stars of the show – characters in a hilarious criminal plot. All of the stories that you can chose from are South African, so that means you have an adventure that is far more accessible to your guests, allowing them to laugh at the satire of their favourite gripes.

The game is played around the dinner table and regular breaks are taken for guests to enjoy their meal.

Each murder mystery comes with its own host who will guide guests through their crime caper. Guests are given clues, can bribe the police for reports, and at the end of the evening there are prizes for those of who manage to solve the murder.

For Christiaan Basson from Deloitte Actuarial and Insurance Solutions, “the organising was great, the props very entertaining, and the facilitation on the evening itself smooth and enjoyable.”

The murder weapon
All costumes and props are supplied. “This means that everybody can then choose their own hats, wigs, dresses, jackets, fake boobs, gangster jewellery on the day, at your venue, as part of the show. There is a lot of fun in playing dress up together, helping your friends and colleagues choose the right costume for their criminal characters,” says Kenneth Collett from South African Murder Mysteries. This also allows the event organiser to focus on finding the perfect venue and choosing a mouth-watering menu. South African Murder Mysteries will do sound and lighting for an additional cost.

Whodunnit
Having a murder mystery ensures that your guests will be entertained. It is highly interactive and, most importantly, fun. “Truly a most rewarding experience that we would recommended to anyone who needs something different at a corporate function or team building exercise,” says Shereen Daniels, Metropolitan Employee Benefits.

The verdict
“This is the most fun we’ve had in years. And the most I’ve laughed in my life,” Lisa Duigan, sales and marketing coordinator, Ford Motor Company.

“The use of costumes and character impersonations added to the excitement. We would highly recommend South African Murder Mysteries as entertainment for any corporate function,” Dilip Makanjee, head: Credit Change and Systems, Absa.
