In an era where connectivity is critical to business operations, keeping pace with ongoing industry changes is key in managing connectivity expenditure, notes Vishal Barapatre, chief technology officer at In2IT Technologies.
“While the cost of bandwidth continues to come down, the stability and security of connectivity available to businesses have increased… businesses no longer have to choose between speed and capacity when it comes to commercial connectivity,” he explains.
An important trend within this has been a mass migration to the cloud, which has boosted the turnaround speeds of business. In order to get businesses to this point, says Vishal, “organisations require robust, secure connectivity in order to take advantage of modern cloud architecture.”
The world’s mobile workforce is expected to swell to 1.88 billion people and account for nearly half (43.3%) of the total workforce by 2023
A rapidly growing mobile workforce is another key factor driving the need for improved connectivity; Global Mobile Workforce Forecast Update 2017-2023 expects that the world’s mobile workforce will swell to 1.88 billion people and account for nearly half (43.3%) of the total workforce by 2023.
“In order to accommodate these shifting workforce dynamics, enterprises will need to establish secure, stable connectivity in order to evolve their technology consumption to become more open and agile,” says Vishal.
According to Vishal, organisations that have moved to more efficient internet-based connectivity have effectively reduced costs by as much as 50%.
It’s not a luxury, it’s an absolute necessity
According to Vishal, organisations that have moved to more efficient internet-based connectivity have effectively reduced costs by as much as 50%.
“Furthermore, businesses now have greater choice, and for global companies, it’s now possible for each branch location to choose a provider that offers the best services at an affordable price and delivers on their promises,” he says.
The greatest costs currently associated with connectivity are the recurring annual cost of bandwidth and operational spend. To ensure these costs do not become unmanageable, Vishal encourages companies to conduct a thorough due diligence process and to plan around their connectivity needs.
“Additionally, organisations need to remember that speed of the connectivity alone is insufficient for sustainability, and thus they should place just as much emphasis on security measures that will both protect and enable every connection that the business requires,” he concludes.
