Blend your own unique bottle of wine | The Planner

Wine enthusiasts can now explore the art of wine blending at Sun International’s Table Bay hotel with renowned local winemaker, Rikus Neethling.

After breakfast at The Table Bay, guests then travel to Stellenbosch where they have the opportunity create and bottle their own blend of wine under Neethling’s expert guidance.

Neethling is also responsible for The Table Bay’s house wine Captains Table. He completed his B.Sc in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch in 2006 and went on to establish Rikus Neethling Wines.

He guides guests through the process of winemaking which involves an insightful journey of different cellars, tasting various mixes of cultivars from barrels, and finally blending a wine to the guest’s individual taste and preferences.

Guests may then take their unique bottle of wine back to The Table Bay where a chef/sommelier will pair it to a suitable dish from the menu at the Camissa Brasserie.

“Like the unique Camissa Walking Tours, Foraging expeditions with our Executive Chef, and the Baobab Journey at our Camelot Spa, this Wine Blending experience has that special, quintessentially-South African touch for which The Table Bay is known,” says Sarah Prins, the public relations manager at The Table Bay.

One can choose a half or full day wine blending experience. Guests also have the option to have their own wine blend bottled, labelled and delivered to them at home at an extra cost.
