Winter warmers from Oude Werf Restaurant | The Planner

OW1Keeping true to their heritage, the team at Stellenbosch’s Oude Werf Restaurant is excited to offer diners a taste of a few South African classics this winter.

If guests find themselves in the heart of Stellenbosch over lunch time, they can opt for the delicious and affordable butternut and coconut soup, served with homemade vetkoek for only R38. Looking for something heartier? The South African Bobotie Wrap is a modern twist on the classic dish, with fruit salsa, lettuce, caramelized banana and a choice of fries or salad for R68.

Other lunch favourites include the Cape smoked snoek fish cakes, served with fruit salsa, vetkoek, korrelkonfyt and side salad (R76) and a chicken curry bunny chow, served in a home-baked mini bread loaf with a tomato and chilli sambal and fresh coriander (R68).

OW2Dinner sees a few heartier dishes join the line-up. Elevating a humble soup into a main attraction, diners will be hard-pressed to look past the Karoo venison biltong and Simonsberg Blue Rock cheese soup, served with homemade vetkoek for R58. Heartier options include a traditional lamb and tomato bredie (R138), venison shank with chickpeas and a blueberry jus (R115) and braised oxtail served with ‘stywepap’ (R138).

“We want to show diners that we can be proud of and embrace our South African culinary heritage. Whether you are a visitor to Stellenbosch, a local Capetonian, or a guest at Oude Werf Hotel, we invite you to join us in celebrating these traditional flavours this winter,” says chef Albert.

Oude Werf Restaurant’s ‘Truly South African Trio’ combines three favourites in one dish – bite-sized samples of Cape Malay bobotie, chicken pie, and oxtail, served with yellow rice and seasonal vegetables, for R122. For the best of all worlds, guests are invited to make the most of the last of winter and enjoy a little local flavour.
