In this instalment of In Conversation with Queen, we understand the role of communication and why 80% of leadership is centred on self-leadership.
What makes a successful leader? Is it wealth? Authority? The ability to say to others, “I have arrived”?
During the third session of In Conversation with Queen, Queen Ramotsehoa, Executive Coach and Founder of the Tsheto Leadership and Coaching Academy, reads from the fourth chapter of her book, Leadership Anchored in Consciousness is a Big Deal. In her reading this week, Queen focuses on what she calls Conscious Communication.
“Communication and telling are not synonyms,” Queen emphasises, adding that communication includes two or more active voices in the conversation.
Within communication, Queen identifies four areas:
- Speaking / talking
- Listening
- Asking
- Integrating
“To arrive at an eventual common conclusion, in that process, the first important thing both people must do is share their opinions,” says Queen.
A key takeout from this week’s reading is that a successful leader is someone who understands the human condition because this is a challenge that they themselves have overcome. For this process to work successfully, communication forms a key component.
