12 years ago, when a young winemaker used a stainless steel barrel instead of an oak barrel to mature the Pinotage grapes, he didn’t know he would be creating a South African legacy which would be celebrated every year among local and international fans.
The tantalising flavours and aromas of intense dark chocolate and freshly-roasted coffee all captured in a bottle, has also taken the world by storm. Earlier this month, Pinotage grapes were carefully harvested from the vineyard and placed into the stainless steel tanks with French oak staves where they will slowly ferment and mature to perfection until ready to be served straight into the glass at what was already voted the ‘World’s best wine event’.
The first POT Festival of 2016 takes place in Johannesburg at Val Bonne Country Estate in Modderfontein on the 20th of August, followed by the Durban festival at The Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock which takes place on Heritage Day, the 24th of September. As history has it, the grand finale will be hosted at the home of ‘the People’s Pinotage’, Diemersfontein Estate in Wellington on the 29th of October.
During the festival, guests will be treated to top-quality local performances while indulging in an array of delicious foods, including dessert, which all pair perfectly with the Coffee-Chocolate Pinotage on tap. All festival attendees will also receive a goodie-bag upon arrival filled with a few necessities for this unmissable day which is all included in the ticket price.
