The Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) was honoured with a Lilizela Tourism Award in the Conference and Exhibition Venue category, at the prestigious 2019 awards ceremony on 9 November.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards are hosted by South African Tourism, and recognise and reward tourism businesses that deliver a world-class product and service – and in doing so, help to grow South Africa’s profile as a leading tourism destination.
Shaun Bird, GM of SCC, says, “I have no doubt that this significant award won by Sandton Convention Centre can be attributed to team dedication, to the fact that everyone works together to ensure that every event runs smoothly, and that clients receive the best service possible.”
He adds, “Our core strategy this year is customer focus – being flexible and listening to what our clients want. This has definitely paid off.” This strategy led to, among other things, Executive Chef James Khoza and his team designing new menus in-line with client requests, global trends and a desire to be increasingly sustainable. Food tasting sessions are a new added service, created to help ensure clients get the exact menu they want for their events.
The competition for these awards was fierce, notes Bird, with many worthy contenders competing against the SCC for this coveted title. He says, “I am extremely proud of my team and what we have accomplished this year. This is an excellent achievement for us and on behalf of the entire SCC team, I would like to heartily thank all our clients who voted for us. We appreciate you all.”
