An adventurous Sani Pass day trip | The Planner

riverThis special trip starts with the departure at 9:00 from Underberg to the World Heritage Site of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, following the Mkomazana River up the scenic Sani Valley to the South African Border Post.

Continue up the Sani Pass while viewing the Hodgson’s Peaks and the Giants Cup. Climb to an altitude of 2.874m and zigzag upwards beneath towering cliffs, buttresses, past waterfalls and unique flora and bird life.

After having completed the border formalities at Lesotho Border you visit the village to learn more about the Basotho culture. Get invited into a Basotho Hut, tasting of Basotho homemade bread and traditional beer.

Arrive at the Sani Stone Chalet/Lodge and the “Highest Pub in Africa” (2.874m) for lunch. The restaurant offers international and South African meals from the A la Carte menu .

This is followed by a 20 minute hike to the Sani River and 20 minutes return to the pub.
Be sure to take a jacket, comfortable walking shoes, camera, and mineral water.

Rate: R650.00 per person excluding lunch
Children’s rate from 12 to 3 years are half price of the adult cost.
lunch is served at the New Highest Pub in Africa ranging from R55 – R110 per person
