Boeing has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ethiopian Airlines to develop the largest aviation hub in Africa.
Earlier this week, Ethiopian Airlines announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Boeing to develop Ethiopia into Africa’s largest aviation hub.
On the back of its successful relationship spanning more than 70 years, the East African-headquartered airline and Boeing have agreed to partner in four areas that include industrial development, advanced aviation training, educational partnerships, and leadership development. Teams have already been put in place to implement the strategic partnership.
“We highly value the critical role of our American partner companies in accomplishing our goals and we will continue to work with key American aviation players like Boeing, GE, Pratt and Whitney and Collins Aerospace… in our journey towards excellence in aviation.”
Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO, Ethiopian Airlines
“I am very much thrilled not only to sign this historic MoU with our long-standing aviation partner, Boeing but also to the implementation of milestones. We have been working in collaboration with Boeing on different large-scale projects in aviation for more than 70 years to serve the continent of Africa and this partnership expands and builds our capability in multiple fields. I have firm conviction that with our dedication in its implementation, the MoU will successfully attain its goal of positioning Ethiopia as the continent’s aviation hub,” noted Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines upon the signing of the MoU.
One of the key areas of implementation will be to establish the Ethiopian Aviation Academy “as a global standard for aviation training” according to the press statement released by Ethiopian Airlines.
