In honour of National Blood Month, Maropeng, in association with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), will hold a blood drive on Friday, 20 June from 10am to 3pm.
The Maropeng blood drive falls during World Blood Donor Month, which highlights the need for safe, good quality blood and blood products. This year’s theme is “Safe Blood for Saving Mothers”, raising awareness of the requirement for timely access to safe blood in the prevention of maternal deaths. According to Vanessa Raju, SANBS Communication Manager, childbirth and other gynaecologic complications are amongst the highest demand for blood daily in South Africa.
“Donating blood is a way of giving life and we welcome the community and visitors to join us in support of this important cause,” says Lindsay Marshall, marketing and communications manager at maropeng, the official visitor centre of the Cradle of Humankind.
