New GMs for Hilton Hotels in South Africa | The Planner

Hilton Worldwide recently announced the appointment of Markus Fritz as the new general manager of Hilton Durban and Marc Schumacher as general manager of Hilton Cape Town City Centre effective early 2014.

Fritz and Schumacher’s careers started at Hilton Worldwide over 14 years ago and both are seasoned industry professionals with strong and diverse hospitality backgrounds.

“I’m delighted that both Markus and Marc are taking the helms of two of Hilton Worldwide’s most successful hotels in South Africa.  The hospitality sector remains challenging but is also rife with opportunity so I look forward to both of them making the most of their new positions,” explained Jan van der Putten, Vice President for Hilton Worldwide in Africa and the Indian Ocean.

Fritz has worked across a number of hotels in Europe, the UK and South Africa and served as general manager of Hilton Cape Town City Centre over the past two years.

“Hilton Durban has established itself as a leading landmark hotel in South Africa; and was recently recognised as South Africa’s Favourite Hotel and South Africa’s Best Business Hotel.  Markus’ talent and expertise will play a pivotal role in leading the team to achieve even greater success,” says Van der Putten, vice president of operations, Africa and Indian Ocean.

Schumacher served as General Manager of Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa over the past four years and has gained experience at several Hilton properties in Italy, Greece, Germany, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

“Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort and Spa has enjoyed phenomenal success under Marc’s leadership.  His global experience, strong leadership and diverse capabilities will introduce a new dimension to Hilton Cape Town City Centre and I look forward to witnessing his future success,” concluded Van der Putten.
